INTRODUCTION

The author of this book is one of the greatest preachers of our day. He preaches great sermons with great power. His messages are filled with truths that stir one's heart. God has used him in a marvelous way. During a five-year pastorate in the First Baptist Church, of Little Rock, Ark. he had over three thousand additions to the church. Nearly two thousand of these came upon a profession of faith. Since he has been giving his full time to evangelism God has given him some of the greatest victories of any evangelist of any day. Often hundreds confess Christ in great city-wide meetings conducted by him.

Dr. Hankins has been too busy to prepare sermons for publication. I have asked him to allow us to publish some of his messages just as he delivered them. He has hesitated to do so because he feared his readers might not understand the lack of “literary elegance” in his messages delivered extemporaneously. I have insisted that although messages taken stenographically as spoken may lack “polish” they possess a freshness and fervor not generally found in written sermons.

Therefore, Dr. Hankins has consented for us to publish this first volume of messages delivered in the pulpit of the First Baptist Church, of Little Rock, Ark. The reader will visualize this great man speaking in his pulpit as he reads these sermons on the Cross.

Christ For the World seeks to publish only the very best books. We feel that we are living up to our standard in sending forth this volume of unusual sermons on the Cross of Christ. These messages are scriptural, spiritual, striking, stirring! My prayer is that hundreds of thousands of people will read these messages and be brought to the Christ of the cross for salvation, and to the foot of the Cross for consecrated service.
