Foreword
Like a shining ray of light piercing through the inky blackness of the night to guide the poor wanderer home; like one sweet, exquisite, harmonious note above the jargon of discord of this old wicked world; like one fragrant flower blooming alone on the lip of a spewing volcano, the Pacific Garden Mission has by the grace of GOD stood like a beacon light in the turbulent sea of Chicago's Skid Row, beckoning shipwrecked, floundering sinners to the only haven of rest. How many despairing souls have found rest through this God-sent ministry of the Pacific Garden Mission, Heaven only will reveal.
And now the ministry and outreach of this lighthouse has been multiplied a thousand times by the open door of radio broadcasting. The phenomenal response and acceptance of America's unique radio program, "Unshackled," is indeed the "work of GOD."
I am deeply moved and greatly honored to write this foreword to this volume of testimonies of precious souls "unshackled" and set free over the years within the walls of the "Lighthouse on State Street." It will not only encourage GOD's people to see that His hand is not shortened, but will touch countless others, beyond the immediate reach of the Mission, with the message of Him who is able to save "from the uttermost to the uttermost."
It makes one more anxious for Heaven and a look at the records up there. May God use this volume in "unshackling" countless souls from the chains of sin; for surely "he bringeth out those which are bound with chains" (Psalms 68:6).
